Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the BookShelf iOS application ("the app"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. The Service

BookShelf is a reading application that lets you import and read EPUB books, translate words while reading, and save vocabulary for learning. Some features are free; advanced features are available through a paid subscription ("BookShelf Pro").

2. Your Account

You must provide accurate information when creating an account and keep your credentials secure.
You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account.
You may delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete Account.

3. Your Content

You may import book files (EPUB) that you own or otherwise have the legal right to use. You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the rights to any content you import.
Imported books are stored locally on your device. We do not claim ownership of your content.
You must not use the app to infringe copyright or other intellectual-property rights.

4. Subscriptions & Payments

BookShelf Pro is offered as an auto-renewing subscription (for example, monthly or annual), purchased through your Apple ID.
Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
Auto-renewal: the subscription automatically renews unless it is canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
Managing / canceling: you can manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings at any time. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Any unused portion of a free trial, if offered, is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
Prices may vary by region and may change; changes apply to future billing periods only.

5. Translations & AI-Generated Content

Word translations, definitions, phonetic transcriptions, and example sentences are generated automatically using machine translation and AI services. This content is provided for learning convenience and may occasionally be inaccurate or incomplete. It is not professional linguistic, educational, or any other advice, and we make no guarantees as to its accuracy.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

use the app for unlawful purposes or in violation of these Terms;
attempt to bypass usage limits, security measures, or access our backend services outside the app;
reverse-engineer, resell, or exploit the service or its AI/translation features in bulk.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

7. Intellectual Property

The app, its design, and its software are owned by BookShelf and protected by applicable laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our trademarks or branding.

8. Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by law, BookShelf shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including reliance on translations or AI-generated content, or loss of data. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

9. Changes to the Service or Terms

We may modify features (including free-tier limits), or update these Terms, at any time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

10. Termination

You may stop using the app at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (e.g., intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability) will survive.
